In 1998, JC Unique founded Unique 2 Rhythm Records releasing primarily white-labels and bootlegs within the UKG scene operating from his own Ipswich based studio which at one time resided above the legendary 'Redeye Records' Drum 'n' Bass specialist record shop.
After more than a decade's break from music production, he revived the brand to a new digital world, re-launching the label as a means of releasing material he was creating with software as opposed to hardware which was relegated to long-term storage.
Unique2rhythm was and is both an artist and collaborative project with JC working solo or in collaboration with other artists. The U2R tracks included in this compilation represent JC working solo or as a solo remixer.
It's fair to say that as producer, he enjoys exploring many sub-genres of house music from the more banging to the soulful and has experimented with the Bumpin' Soul alias for his more 'Jackin' tracks.
One basic rule applies to JC's work which permeates his label too. The music must have an element of soul and make you feel lifted is some way. Song arrangement is hugely important with lush breakdowns featuring in almost every track with vocals taking on an essential role.
'This album, represents a personal body of work which has become a huge part of my life over the last four years whilst remaining relatively unknown which is why I wouldn't dare call it a greatest hits! I've taken huge joy in technology allowing me to produce music that I simply couldn't create with my modest 90's studio at the time.
The journey definitely continues whilst adapting to a radical change of musical business landscape but I still have a fire and enthusiasm for creating music that makes people smile, so expect much more to come. Oh, as a little treat, track 24 is a remaster of one of my most successful vinyl releases from the late 90's just to give you an idea where things started.' JC Unique
