Our most prolific and celebrated artist - Ritz, makes a welcome return to Piston Recordings with his exceptional ‘Panpupas EP’. Ritz's unwavering dedication to our label has yielded an impressive collection of well over 50 releases since 2016, solidifying his status as a true stalwart of our musical family. His tracks consistently soar to the summit of numerous charts, earning accolades as the ultimate weekend weapons among his contemporaries. In addition to his contributions to Piston, Ritz curates his sonic vision through his own label, Left Hook Recordings, where he unveils his distinct musical signature. While Ritz sparingly graces the DJ booth, his rare appearances are reserved for special occasions, featuring exclusively his own unparalleled creations. We are, as always, delighted to have him with us.
‘Panpupas’ opens the release, setting the tone with a wonderfully rich and vibrant groove that ignites a sense of euphoria while keeping us rooted to the depths of deep house music. Super tight 909 drums and percussions lay the foundation for a silky-smooth groove filled with chunky plucked basses and swirling, infectious pads throughout. A top-notch effort that is not to be missed. ‘Recollections’ is up next, offering up a more organic flavour with a minimal approach. Flowing, rhythmic beats keep the toes tapping as wistful chord pads create a warming atmosphere. Subtle melodies are contrasted with a deep, droning bass as short, one-shot vocals add texture to the sound. Beautiful stuff. ‘North Junction’ concludes the EP, offering up a garage influenced groove with break beats and urban flavours. The drum arrangement is highly infectious, with chunky kicks and shimmering hats combining with rhythmic percussions. Hypnotic pads and violins create a surreal atmosphere as thick analogue style modulated basses add weight and spice up the groove. An outstanding composition that will not disappoint.
