WOOD106 | 2021-11-19
Grayscayle is back on Woodwork with a new set of punchy tech trax. After working his way around the block with some fine EP releases in various styles, Jim Stiff boldly clashes the elements together, further crafting a strong unusual sound and approach. He also enlists SVEET for a strong dub out version that pushes the range of sounds represented with this project.

'Symbols' strikes a recognizable tone... bouncy, quirky, and driving. Some jungle-style breaks manipulation nestles into a few of the breakdowns, hitting up against the minimal techno vibe extracted from the manipulation of the vocal hits and stabs. Spacious arranging and exciting hit placement with ample variations keep this cut exciting and interesting from start to finish, with energy levels always fluctuating nicely for the floor and for the mix.

Grayscayle has never been shy about fusing styles and feels. 'Fitting In' exemplifies this again, with dub tech sonics straddling over the deep house realm. Jazz trumpet lines and punchy hats reframe the reverb-drenched hits, creating a warm sensation in the midst of a stark empty space.

Sveet's dub version is deliciously organic and dynamic. The elements are completely halted and then re-engaged in a strong humanized context. The use of empty space creates a fully relaxed realm, where each and every echo carries strong weight and importance. The parts come alive and float majestically over the anchored bass groove.
