Yoruba Records is proud to present the remixes of last fall’s ‘Postcards From Strangers’, the now classic release from Trinidad Senolia. We’ve scoured the globe to find the artists that could bring a special touch to this EP, and we think you’ll be quite pleased. The first postcard is brought to us by Sam Sparrow; a touching, 90s influenced, unmistakably dance floor ready remix of ‘Hair & Makeup’. While the flirtatious vocals of the original focus on a moment in time as every woman prepares to project herself in to the hot party scene, this remix brings a touch of male affirmation while entering into a two-way dialog. This track closes with a powerful bass line, perfect for taking the night up a notch. Next is another mix of ‘Hair & Makeup’, as Chicago’s own Colette is joined by master composer Tim K. Together they craft a deep, sexy groove whose flirtatious vocals mesh perfectly with the crisp, filtered hi-hats bringing the listener into a euphoric state. Label veteran Toto Chiavetta brings his signature sound and his own arrangement of the Bata drums to the oceanic groove that is his A Colour Remix of ‘La Pacifica’. The dreamy vocals, a reading from the novel ‘Hollywood Rock Swinging’, coupled with silky smooth flowing keys, will bring a mystical experience to the listener. We then welcome Brillstein with his remix of ‘Hair & Makeup’. This modern dance floor bomb utilizes chopped vocals and a fat, punchy bass line to get its point across. The addition of a well-placed bongo loop adds a certain tribal flare to this track without coming across as too obvious, just as the vocals demand “don’t be goofy, be sexy”. Next, Jose Marquez offers us a timeless remix of ‘Sucre Sacre’, a soulful house song that respectfully honours the slaves and ancestors landing of the ancient land of Haiti. Jose’s remix adds depth to the track with the addition of deep, backing synths and well placed stabs. This track builds to a climax with powerful synths and vocal chants before releasing into rhythmic plateau. Finally, Toto Chiavetta again joins us on this EP with his Who? Remix of ‘La Pacifica’. The addition of layered hi-hats and crisp claps in this remix speed up the pace of this cut and lead the listener out of the ocean and onto the floor.
