Do Like I Do (The Motherland Extended Mixes)

Daddy Molete

Static Plastic

He may be little known right now, but Daddy Molete is a vocalist and performer who has already made a mark on the international map and looks set to become a household name with the arrival of his eclectic and supremely catchy "Do Like I Do".

"Umdali" means 'creator', and the creators of 2000's deeply original Afro house track by the same name – Nutty Nys, DJ Mbuso and Daddy – not only landed up on essential SA compilations like "House of T-Bose", but also caught the attention and ear of folk like renowned Nottingham-based house producer Charles Webster (aka Presence and remixer of the likes of Justin Fly and Salif Keita).

Webster liked the tune so much, in fact, that he licensed it as the second offering for his Miso label. He also remixed it and gave it to the UK's Brooks and Germany's Vincenzo to do the same. Not a bad outcome for a song that, "We were just experimenting on" Daddy admits.

This is just one of the high points Thomas Ramatome Molete (aka Daddy) says is all about celebration: "gospel, love and fun". With consummate ease this Sebokeng (South Africa)-raised singer and producer (introduced to the craft, like so many greats, through the church) breezes his way through wonderfully diverse musical terrain. Gospel, kwaito and soul are all beefed up for the clubs (and alert listeners) in what is a bumping brew indeed.

A sterling CD which was released in 2004 under House Afrika and licensed to the CCP Record Company, a division of EMI Records, on which Daddy’s rich and sensual vocals play over church grooves engineered by some of the most monumental names in South African House. Daddy enlisted the skills of previous partner Christos, as well as experienced compatriots like House Afrika’s Tim White and the ever-versatile Static Plastic, to steer his songs onto dancefloors and daytime radio

In this package we feature the 5 extended tracks that were produced for the album by Static Plastic & Tim White under the pseudonym "Motherland" as well as the Remix Static did for the song "Mdali". Also included are all the Dub versions.
