Brooklyn’s Onysia returns with a collaborative EP by label boss J Gabriel and Mojo District, entitled the ‘Love Silence’ EP.
The Onysia imprint was launched in 2019 by J Gabriel out of Brooklyn, New York and has since unveiled original material and remixes from the likes of Akufen, iO Mulen, J Gabriel himself and Mojo District who returns here on this collaboration project.
Up first on the EP is ‘I Know’, embracing a classic house feel via loopy stab sequences, hypnotic vocal chants, organic drums and sweeping sub bass tones. ‘Silence’ follows and strips things back to heavily swung drums, menacing bass notes, glitched out synth flutters and murky pads.
Opening the flip-side is ‘Lovetrack’, bringing things back to brighter sounds courtesy of airy plucked synth notes, skippy hats, crunchy claps and warm vocal tones throughout. ‘They Love It’ then wraps up the release with a similarly cosseting aesthetic, fusing an amalgamation of soft, textural synths with shuffled drums, bouncing bass notes and ethereal strings.
