"Birthmarks" is Bababa's first EP, a project by Porto's Pedro Ricardo, who we became acquainted with via Soundcloud. We were immediately intrigued by his work, and that interest spawned a three-track EP: "Side By Side," "Nash," and "P.O.L.". "Nash" is the darkest track of the three, densely leading us to the light at the end of the tunnel, never quite reaching it. It's the journey that matters. "P.O.L." represents reaching the end of, and exiting, the tunnel. With its pulsating beat, it's bound to pull you to the dance floor in ecstasy and will thrill everyone with its marked but naive stabs. "Side By Side" culminates this journey and confirms Bababa's talent: a club track that gets everything right, featuring a jumpy baseline, rhythmic percussion, and carefully designed stabs and synths, Bababa's signature sound. It manages to cater to what works on the dance floor, while never losing track of the complexity required to make something fresh and exciting.
