NRK’s annual round up of our past 12 months output, as always, throws up many gems. Just when the doubters had written off house music, along comes two of the biggest house records from recent years, and NRK were there to pick them up and keep the underground sound burning. Kerri Chandler’s "Bar A Thym" was a simple yet mightily infectious house cut that crossed over from the house community to the techno genre with ease, and has easily been one of NRK’s biggest tracks ever, helped along with some wonderful new vocal remixes from NY’s Foremost Poets and UK’s Tom Middleton. And along with Quentin Harris’s absolutely huge string laden, soulful techno house of "Let’s Be Young", these two tracks confirmed NRK’s position in the house community today.

Other hi-lights of "Singles 8" include the more minimal direction of UK house stalwarts Peace Division, the West Coast dubby sounds of ex-H-Foundation member Hipp-e, Estonia’s #1 dance exports Rulers Of The Deep (represented here by Nic Fanciuli’s Buick Project Mix), a rather funky Ian Pooley remix of Magik Johnson’s "Rollergirl" and a dream pairing of Miguel Mig’s remix of Joey Negro’s Akabu.

As always, we couple our Singles Collection with a bonus mix CD by one of the scene’s greats, and Singles 8 welcomes Italy’s DJ Ralf to the fold. Ralf, alongside Claudio Coccoluto and Ricky Montanari, head up the cream of the Italian crop, having DJd globally over the last 20 years at legendary clubs such as Ibiza Amnesia, Ministry Of Sound, Echoes in Rimini and Roxy in Amsterdam. DJ Ralf takes us on a terrific romp through the latest of NRK’s house bombs, with great remixes and original tracks from Julien Jabre, Pete Heller, Peace Division.
