Prolific Detroit music makers Zo! and Tall Black Guy reunite for magical new single Sacrifice. Fronted by vocalist-songwriter Debórah Bond, the record is a suitably deep and soulfully sophisticated outing to mark 100 releases 'not out' for the ever-engaging Foliage Records imprint.



Sacrifice builds on Zo! and Tall Black Guy's undeniable studio house and R&B alchemy across previous projects including, most notably, 2021 album Abstractions. Speaking to the importance of selflessness in friendships and relationships, Sacrifice is an intricate, life-affirming blend of atmospheric live drums, warm keys and sweet bassline on top of which Bond's textured vocals soar defiantly upwards and outwards. Lorenzo 'Zo!' Ferguson has been active since the early Noughties, 2001 solo debut album Ablyss leading on to a series of ecstatically received +FE Music released follow-ups Skybreak (2016) and Fourfront (2019) as well as a Zo! Remixed EP on Foliage's sister label Reel People Music. He continues to tour, both under his own steam and as keyboardist and musical director for expansive, Grammy-nominated hip-hop duo The Foreign Exchange. Meanwhile, regular collaborator Tall Black Guy, AKA Terrel Wallace, has established himself as a true progressive within contemporary hip-hop circles thanks to agile drops over the past decade or so on labels including BSTRD Boots, First Word and Ubiquity. Washington DC-based Debórah Bond is perhaps best known for her critically acclaimed albums DayAfter (2003), Madam Palindrome (2011) and Compass: I (2021) as well as for performing with Incognito, Melba Moore and Ronnie Jordan. She also has Reel People Music pedigree, her sultry 2016 track You Are The One earning heavy DJ rotation in clubs around the world upon debut and more recently her feel-good collaboration with Fouk on the single Loving At First Sight.



Sacrifice is serious song and groove-craft that well deserves its scheduling as Foliage Records' landmark 100th release. Coming from two immensely talented and versatile producers, and a supreme front lady in sparkling form, it is the perfect combination of soulful reflection and dancefloor drive. Totally in-keeping, too, with Foliage Records' deep 'n' distinctive soulful sound, as heard on previous hit releases from the likes of Jimpster, Atjazz, Ralf GUM, Manoo, DJ Fudge, Rocco Rodamaal, FKA Mash, Sean McCabe, Turbojazz and N'Dinga Gaba.
