Here comes the second of five Classic re-issue EPs, each of which delves into three pockets of the Shack Music back catalogue. Whilst deep house of a classicist bent was the first EPs vibe, there’s a more unhinged and experimental current running through the three tracks here. Here comes the second of five Classic re-issue EPs, each of which delves into three pockets of the Shack Music back catalogue. Whilst deep house of a classicist bent was the first EPs vibe, there’s a more unhinged and experimental current running through the three tracks here. The first, ‘On Point’ by Boddhi Satva is but three years old and from an EP of the same name, but sounds as good now as ever. It features a mid tempo but thumping kick trudging away under all manner of beguiling machine sounds, from thick wobbly synths to scraping percussion via buried little hooks that are as quirky as they are groovy. ‘Heatbeat’ is the one track chosen from Frenchman Rocco’s trio of entries into the Shack back catalogue. At first it sounds like the site of an alien landing, all blipping digital tones and gentle whooshes. It slowly evolves into a big and bouncy, spare house workout, though, wired up with plenty of occult mystery and clever machine trickery. To complete this triptych, Jay Tripwire turns his hand to re-mixing ‘Brighter Day’, as originally produced by Stockholm based production, DJ and live act Mr Chi & Victor Sanchez aka Groovenauts. Appropriately tripped out and spacey in nature, it’s a stripped and sci-fi indebted tech workout complete with a vocal call to arms that hovers above polished neon synths and mechanical claps. Another EP that shines much warranted attention on the Shack back catalogue, keep your eyes out for the next instalment.
