Give Way

Cy Gorman

Heard And Felt
HF031 | 2022-12-02
With his album 'Hiwave' just a week away, Melbourne musician, producer and visual artist Cy Gorman sneaks out one last single. 'Give Way' is the latest example of Cy's artistry which has drawn in support from Gilles Peterson, Jazzy Jeff, Jimpster, Surprise Chef, Allysha Joy, Crazy P, Richard Dorfmeister, Too Slow to Disco, Bandcamp Weekly, KCRW, Triple J, Soil & Pimp Sessions, Hotel Costes and the labels behind BADBADNOTGOOD, Moonchild, Jordan Rakei and Franc Moody.
Here Cy (pronounced as in cy-borg) opens with spacious breathy chords, playing his own voice on the keyboard. Next comes the seasonal chiming of bells, like the slowest dance of a sugar plum fairy. Then, from nowhere (or maybe from Sa-Ra and Stevie) comes the wonkiest of synth basslines match with Cy's vocals. One spell is shattered and another is immediately cast.
Also included is the playful bass groover 'Dewy Drip, the melodic electronic vocal duet 'Clockwork', and the slow motion disco (or yacht-soul-for-gamers) of the album's title track.
