Melbourne multimedia multi-genre multi-instrumentalist Cy Gorman invites you to see the world through rose-coloured glasses, much like the ones he wore through the making of his new album 'Hiwave'. Determined to squeeze every last drop out of his creativity, Cy (pronounced as in cy-borg) brings his piano, saxophone, vocals, beatmaking, sound design and songwriting for a shapeshifting and mindbending sonic ride.
Like a cyborg, Cy seeks the perfect integration of human and machine, with his jazz school training breathing through electronic soundscapes inspired by exploratory grooves from labels like Brainfeeder, Warp and Ninja Tune.
The songs on 'Hiwave' are not unified in genre, with nods to R&B, chillwave, trap beats, AOR and 20+ years of hip hop. But what runs through the album is a product of the process: play, air, wonder, flow, altered states, slow motion, connecting with family, embracing 'mistakes' and honouring the masters from Stevie to Prince to The Neptunes and beyond.
Support for Cy has included BBC, KCRW, Spotify Fresh Finds, Apple Music, Triple J, Hotel Costes, Worldwide FM, InterFM Tokyo and (the mighty!) Bandcamp Weekly.
