Szmer ‘Darkness Falls EP’
Polish producer Szmer debuts on Ben Sims’ Symbolism with a five-track EP this December featuring a collaboration with We Call It Voight-Kampff.
Fresh from a release on Truncate’s eponymous imprint and an appearance on Symbolism’s Synchronicity compilation, Szmer is in electric form on ‘Darkness Falls’. ‘H4’, a pelter with overlapping rhythmic elements contributing to fever-pitch intensity, ‘Darkness Falls’ sets out its stall quickly and efficiently. ‘Flawless’ follows and, thanks to yet more adroit weaving of sounds, makes for another magnetic groove while ‘H90’ uses the focus on just one tweaked stab and some freaky delays to engage throughout.
The title track, written with We Call It Voight-Kampff, is a significantly more introspective and spacey piece than its counterparts and will find favour in those trippy, early morning moments when things get weird. Closer, ‘Pulse’, bridges the gap with heady melodies and a steady, appropriately pulsing feel nudging the track towards peak time without going too far.
