MBR413 trails the watercourse choreographed by Italy-born and Melbourne-based DJ/Producer, Leo Guardo and narrated by three eloquent African vocalists. Interfusing innovative techno elements with deep house soulfulness and tribal groove, Big Fish ruptures into turbulent waters, basking in the invigorating currents of sonic tides. On A-Side, Bayamememza starts off with an inquisitive buildup, growing more tense as coarse percussion amass friction. Outpouring grief and empathy into a poignant aria, Tabia’s heartfelt invocation peals aloft tribal elements, grasping on to the groundedness of house and casting hope in euphoric melodies. A winsome bassline rolling through subtle inclines and climaxes cradles Andiswa’s soul-riveting vocals in Sebenza. Compelling lyrics that express the value of perseverance are the force stretching the 6:58 minute track taut, upending the pendulum of triumphs and setbacks through ethnic soundscapes and synthetic swells. Wrapping up the saga, Adile Mbili expels gut-felt exhilaration in an homage to the goddess of fertility and the rain ritual in her honor. Softening nuanced percussion with tender piano notes, Wenomkhubulwane gently rides on earthy instrumentals, locking place in locomotive groove. But it doesn’t think twice, hopping on euphoric harmonies at the right chords up, to escalate into sublime dimensions.
