The next artist to grace Roushlabel with their talents is German powerhouse, Arado. No stranger o the label, Arado returns to Roush with a solo EP following his thumping ‘Black Pepper’ on our Not Ordinary Sampler in 2018. The release contains three fresh cuts, sampling some of his finest work to date. The title track, ‘Break Even’, opens proceedings with a chugging tech beat. Loaded with swung hats and driving hats, supplemented by detuned Rhodes stings and a groovy synth. The track progressively layers extra tiers of subtle melodic factors, complimented by the processed female vocal delicately placed on top. All of those elements of flair are made steady by a firm and no-nonsense pulsating sub, giving the track an unparalleled level of clout throughout. Chunky, party-pleasing tech house; full to the brim with energy. ‘Transplantation’ then flips the vibe on its head, pushing through with furious, rolling low frequencies. Shuffled percussion meets heavyset kicks and undulating toms; forcing an engaging level of swayed momentum through the main body of the track. It keeps the element of surprise in places as it switches to breakbeat to keep you on your toes before throwing you back into the bounce. Arado finishes up with ‘Oh George!’, another darkened roller. This time taking the route of more authentic, house-led rhythm; the track is built around a layered bassline melody comprising tonal toms with exaggerated low frequencies. A non-conventional musical structure is apparent, making it a promisingly different choice if you’re looking for something that really catches your ear. Arado’s ‘Break Even’ EP is proudly presented by Roush Label.
