Argentina's Joaquin Koen makes his FXtion Records debut with Rawness EP: raw, timeless, jackin' house beats primed to make dancefloors bounce.

Joaquin Koen's influences come from a huge range of musical genres, from funk, to soul and jazz, but most notably hip-hop. As he admits: 'I love the raw sound, I always want to sound dirty'. Consolidating all his influences, his sounds leans very much towards the old school Chicago style, with Koen experimenting with 70s, 80s and 90s samples and synths to give his music an authentically timeless quality.

His latest EP for FXtion is no exception. The three originals here are all gritty, raw, chucky records: cut from the same classic house cloth, but all with their own unique identities. 'Rawness' is the toughest of the trio, with sharp, pulsing synths and a fast-paced groove, 'Never Forget' bounces along on a thunderous bassline, while 'House Addition' is a deep, dark roller, until the truly euphoric breakdown takes it to a completely new level.

Remixes come from Kinnerman (elrow, Kaluki) and Ten Story (Toolroom). Kinnerman takes on 'Rawness', transforming it into a tense, seething tech house monster, while Ten Story get to grips with Never Forget, producing a spaced-out, dubby workout, with well-placed vocal flourishes adding beautifully ethereal melodic moments throughout.
