Joining Adam Swain at the helm, Leighton James is welcomed to the team at Buxton Records as they present international talent Johnny Vaz with the release of the 'IMFU' EP. Having also worked with Nur Tiven as Beta Ghosts, and with more than 10 years of writing and producing music under his belt, this is the Boston based producer's debut appearance on the Buxton imprint. This EP showcases the deep, melodic grooves he is known for under this alias, whilst demonstrating a refined maturity in his production.
The listener eases into the three track EP with the soft, gentle vibes of 'IMFU'. This cut wanders idly on a bed of light and airy percussion; highlighted with delicate, hypnotic piano and lazy synths. A rolling bassline and a pitched down vocal sample take the EP in a darker direction and build melancholy suspense. Closer 'Digital Drugs' steadily builds on the ambient atmosphere. Sporadic vocals and swelling 80s guitar synths create an otherworldly intrigue and bring the EP to a beautifully meditative close.
