Summer warmth gives way to autumnal chill and the season's change heralds a new collection of sensory seduction as "Fall Particles 2014" continues to discover sparkling new talent alongside established production finesse.
Dutch artist Mozaiek confirms his strong techno credentials opening with the beautiful, "Achterkamer". A sublime combination of hallmark genre beats combined with soft melodic underpinning, Mozaiek's work is a study in class and poise that would not be out of place in the catalogues of Romboy and Bodzin.
UK artist, Anthony Yarranton, has been a tour de force in the past 12 months with a rapidly growing portfolio of works that included the recent "Soul Tax" EP on Proton Music. Joining with fellow countryman and newcomer, Chris Johnson, the pair comes together here with a collaborative work and a remix by Yarranton of a Johnson original from "Summer Particles 2014". Full of the strong rhythms and percussive interplay that is a trademark of Yarranton's work, Johnson's rich melodies and pulsating bass line make "On The Map" a work of understated elegance. "Journey Man" then showcases Yarranton's skill through languid sun-kissed remix, relaxed groove and soothing downtempo vibe to close out the release.
Second Dutchman to enter the fray, Frank Maris is a new name to the Particles roster. Championed by such celebrated lights as Scotty.A and Yarranton, Maris has been a regular on the Axon imprint. The equally impressive "Eyes Filled With Joy" continues this success with twinkling arpeggios that drift deliciously as in perfect harmony with effortless rhythms.
Two collaborative pairings follow, sandwiched by a rising Ukrainian star. First, Belarusian, Michael A combines with Egyptian, Mou, to produce "Ghost Island". As its name hints, a dark seductive bass and rhythm complements a haunting set of pads and effects that twist and turn with intrigue before a melodic phrase provides a sinister, tension-filled edge. Prolific producer, Following Light, takes up the mantle with his tantalisingly titled "Nooning". Full of the intricate touches that are a feature of his work, a collage of melodies are delicately layered atop a strong bass line, punchy beat and vocal laden percussion. Polish stars Monojoke and Tuxedo then combine their production talents through "Aura", an uplifting track, full of bass rhythm and cleverly worked melodic motifs. A head-shaking percussion adds further club joy to a track that is reminiscent of Jody Wisternoff's classic style.
The final Dutchman to make an appearance on the compilation, Maurice Caron provides a complex and angular rhythmic structure in which to place a cleverly programmed bass anchor. As "The Long Awaited Trip" develops, a collection of melodies blossom from arpeggios and counterpoint chord progressions juxtaposed against a stripped back, stereo swimming mid section.
Eight tracks from new and established artists alike bring autumnal glow to "Fall Particles 2014".
