The Faceless Recordings imprint is set to release the Whats Missing EP from Cali Lanauze this October, comprising three original tracks from the Peurto Rican producer.
Cali Lanauze was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the budding young artist started collecting electronic music records at an early age, and now at 22 years old has gone on to release material via reputable imprints such as My Favorite Robot Records, Bla Bla and Sleep Is Commercial. Here we see Lanauze join the Faceless Recordings roster, following recent output on the label from Bambook, Chaim and Hands Free.
Opening the release is Kiss Your Dark Eyes, a gritty mind-bending composition driven by menacing bass tones, crunchy distorted rhythms and heavily processed vocal lines, the resultant outcome is a cutting opening track to kick off the Whats Missing EP. Following is Minutes which takes things into more dreamy realms with bubbling arpeggios and warm pad melodies, while the bumpy square wave bass hook and whispering spoken words instil an underlying edge to things.
Entering the latter half of the release we have Tell Me Your Story, which embraces a more electronica focused feel with elongated synth sweeps, a stuttering bass hook and stripped-back percussive elements to again create something unique and hypnotic. Then last up to close the release is No More Philosophy feat. Emiliano Martini, a brilliant closing cut which laying its focus on Jazz-tinged piano licks and multi- layered melodies, while the swirling percussion and murmuring vocals smoothly carry the groove along.
