When Louie first met Axel Tosca a few years ago through Luisito Quintero and heard him on the keyboards he knew immediately that they must create together and the adventure began. Axel Tosca came out to Roots NYC at Cielo one night, says Vega, Luisito asked me if I could invite him on stage during one of our Hector Lavoe tribute performances, Axel came on stage and ripped the keyboards to shreds. I immediately had him in the studio a few days later!. Since then, they've become good friends and have traveled the world together as part of The Elements of Life band, performing for thousands of adoring house music fans. Axel Tosca's endless creative range on keys is only enhanced by his true connection to rhythm and his openness to create outside of the box. Once Louie and Axel got into the studio they used a backing rhythm track created by NYC's ultimate underground percussionists, Papo Swing and Nicky Laboy (both in the House Of Rumba band) on the Congas and 'Sunlight' was created effortlessly! 'Sunlight' captures the energy of all of these creative music makers, harnessing the international spirit of Axel's Cuban roots, with the unmistakable Nuyorican flavor courtesy of Papo Swing & Nicky Laboy (House Of Rhumba). Louie Vega is on the forefront drawing out the strength of the congas all the while maintaining the clear beauty of the melody in the keys flavored with shakers and cowbells.
