The Re-Transmit series heralds the re-workings of Eric Sneo classics, and the first instalment of this four-part release brings the frantic "Woodpecker From Mars" to 2014 standards.
Jewel Kid is up first and takes no prisoners in his interpretation. Employing a straightforward approach from the beginning, persistent stabs and an upbeat bassline set the tone for things to come and the use of the original's out-of-control main element as a complementing effect steals the show. Arjun Vagale swings and steamrolls through the night, combining a crackling rhythm section with sharp synths and menacing pad stabs. In this version we get a more obvious nod to the original's "woodpecking" which effortlessly steps things up to new levels.
