Brazilian producer Aeikus makes a great debut on the label's long-running Mood series with Entering the Light, the 153rd entry in the catalogue. From the outset, it's clear Aeikus understands how to create momentum while building addictive tracks.
Opener 'Salar' starts the program out brisk, with a propulsive groove, while subtle traces of progressive house shape the track's forward motion. Perfectly aligning Aeikus background and roots tied to a dub techno sound. There's a sense of tension and scale here: ominous and constantly pushing ahead. It's powerful without being heavy-handed, letting groove and flow do the work. The title track 'Entering the Light' refines that approach even further. Gritty, well-defined percussion underscores a hypnotic, spacey melodic hook that sinks in quickly. It's functional techno with catchiness, striking a balance between toughness and atmosphere that makes it effective and memorable. For many, Komodo' will be the highlight. Crisp, dubby and irresistibly bouncy, it reminds one of classic Saavas Ysatis-era Tresor releases. The fusion of dub techno depth and progressive polish is seamless, resulting in a track that's endlessly playable. Closing cut 'Kaleidra' takes a more restrained path. Minimal rhythms balance lush chords and floating chords, a suspenseful conclusion that makes you want to rewind.
Entering the Light is a and impressive and addictive EP. We think everyone would be happy if they heard deep tracks like this next time they were out and about at a club. Infectious and tough. Just like techno should be.
