Greyscale Records would like to thank you for being part of an incredible 2025. Your continued support allows the label to keep pushing forward. With that momentum we move confidently into 2026, a year we're proud to open with a excellent debut from South African producer Zerk. Titled Yuai, the record takes its name from the Japanese word meaning friendship or fraternity. That sentiment runs deep through the EP, echoing the brotherhood found within dub music where the lineage of the sound, technique and philosophy are passed from one generation to the next with care, respect and shared purpose. Zerk captures this idea beautifully, blending the roots of dub with techno's forward motion, making both coexist as one living, breathing unit. The title track 'Yuai' begins with a smooth and techy dancefloor groove. Dynamic chord movements and slick, confident production create a track that is restrained and deeply addictive. 'Yugen' is next with its growling bass work and a mysterious, slightly sci-fi edge. This gem has a clean, dubby groove layered with expertly created sonic details that pull you in further. On 'Aikome', the mood shifts warmer, introducing island influences, organic percussion and a lightly tribal feel. Its brighter chords and bouncy rhythm bring an optimistic, respectful energy. Closing track 'Jiko' is the most airy and atmospheric, driven by a rolling bassline and long, flowing chords. Subtle melodic touches add just the right emotion, leaving you satisfied with terrifically sequenced EP flow. Mood Series #151 starts 2026 with an exciting beginning!
