Three Canadian music legends unite for a genre-defying party track that is both old school and futuristic. Rennie Foster on the production means house bass, synths and smooth techy rides but this time the beat is a mid tempo boom-bap Hip House fusion while renown saxophonist Noah Becker deftly sets a dreamy 90s Acid Jazz tone. Moka Only, an underground icon himself, joins Rennie for a dance production every few years, often with notable results, but this one may just be the best of the lot. Moka drops line after line of classic literature for a duo of cryptic verses before stepping into the back as Noah's low key hype man for duration of the journey. A lot to think about and feel here.
Two remixes by UK musician and producer Danny Ward under his two most celebrated alias' The uptempo Moodymanc Club Rub is a Hip House DJ weapon for heads who know the style. The Dubble D version is a classic Old School Hip Hop cut with a big jazzy SP1200 groove and Moka's sharp lyricism right up front. Another Canadian talent SHEPS contrasts the OG approach with a crisp and modern tech house club take still routed in the underground vibe of the release. This mix is unique in that it cuts Moka's vocals up showing the potential of what can be done with the Saxappella version, also included in this very DJ oriented package.
