Probability is the degree (a relative measure, a quantitative assessment) of the possibility of a certain event occurring. When the grounds for a possible event to actually happen outweigh the opposing grounds, this event is called probable; otherwise, it is deemed unlikely or impossible. The balance of positive grounds over negative, and vice versa, can vary, resulting in probability (and improbability) being greater or lesser. Therefore, probability is often assessed qualitatively, especially in cases where a more or less precise quantitative assessment is impossible or extremely difficult. Various gradations of 'levels' of probability are possible.
