Nikko.Z's Dopamine White continues to add to their roster, this week welcoming Following Light to the label for his debut single. With well over a decade's worth of production experience, Ukrainian artist Following Light is perhaps one of the hardest working figures within the old school progressive community, with a prolific release schedule and a bevy of labels under his command, including Aeriform, Absurd State, Inmost, Lamp, Lincor and Dog and Man. Armed with a discography of well over one thousand credits, it has been releases via Balkan Connection, Proton's Particles and Protagonist Dark which remain the most notable. Now, adding Dopamine White to his resume, Following Light makes an impressive label debut with ‘Larimar', alongside a remix from Geerk.
The darker monochromes of ‘Larimar' reveal one of the many sides to Following Light's repertoire. Punchy kick drums and precise percussive arrangements lay the foundation for piercing stabs and atmospheric swells to paint a colourful storyboard, while effervescent arps emerge to add a touch that is both retro and soulful.
The release concludes with Geerk making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Larimar'. Hailing from the Ukraine, George Vasiliadi aka Geerk is perhaps best known for his dub-techno project Methodub, a moniker from which he has racked up nearly two hundred discography credits across an eight year stretch. Looking to explore more traditional progressive and melodic sounds, George would create the Geerk moniker in 2019, and across the next six years would record nearly three hundred projects under the alias. Continuing on this exploratory path for Dopamine White, Geerk now makes his label debut with an inspired rendition of ‘Larimar'. Staying true to the darker qualities of the original, but reshaped and rearranged into something new, the Ukrainian artist applies additional melody and texture, which makes for a version that is percussive, rhythmic and emotional, with just the right amount of atmosphere for what results in the ultimate morning record.
