Following the release of debut EP It's True What They Say? by husband-and-wife duo Sarah/Shaun, in April, Edinburgh label Hobbes Music releases three remixes of the EP's lead track, Dust Tears, by label boss Hobbes, Hardway Bros and Jaguar Eyes, on Friday 22nd November.
1, Hobbes' Spaced Out Electro Dub strips the track back to just vocals, drums, bass and dub-wise fx for the first half, leaving the full strings-and-brass euphoria for the end and has been garnering love on the dance floor and promo alike. As well as running the Hobbes Music label and releasing a hyped debut album alongside long-time studio partner Leonidas this year, he has been championing the best of contemporary and classic dance music at the Club_Nacht x Hobbes Music nights at Edinburgh's much-loved Bongo club.
2, Aka Sean Johnston of A Love From Outer Space notoriety (alongside the much-missed Andrew Weatherall), Hardway Bros delivers a dark Balearic flip, extending the track by some length, with a lot of new production, not least some nifty break beats in the exquisite outro. Touring the ALFOS aesthetic worldwide these days, Johnston has been rinsing the remix to a widespread buzz at clubs and events from London to Prague.
3, Also the co-producer of the original for-track EP, Jaguar Eyes heads down a more ambient route, adding a heart-string-tugging, new, arpeggiated melody plus a reverb-drenched kick that nods to classic Aphex Twin before his wall of sound payload is unleashed at the climax.
The original EP attracted fans across the board, hailed Artist Of The Week in The Scotsman, rapturous reviews from The Skinny and Tokyo's Ban Ban Ton Ton blog, BBC 6Music airplay courtesy of Nemone (Mary Anne Hobbs' Morning Show) plus radio play from Radio Scotland's Roddy Hart, Vic Galloway, plus Simone Butler (Primal Scream) and Jim Sclavunos (Bad Seeds) via their respective Soho Radio shows, among ringing endorsements from the likes of David Holmes, Youth, Kevin Bales (Spiritualized), Brent Rademaker (Beachwood Sparks) and Julian Corrie (Franz Ferdinand).
While recently playing warmly received gigs supporting Glasgow's huge Glasvegas, at Kendall Calling, Dunbar Music Festival, The Pitt and The Depot, Sarah/Shaun have now recorded a follow-up EP which is due for release in early 2025.
