Shark Islands is a collection of recordings from the Tokyo based, ex-Fighting Kites multi-instrumentalist and Kirigirisu Recordings founder Neil Debnam, under his Broken Shoulder pseudonym. Originally produced for a variety of compilations and radio sessions during his tenure with Audio Antihero Records, this material was broadcast and recorded between London, Tokyo, Cape Town, Miami and beyond.
Differing greatly from his glittering and grooving material with Post-Rock-Noise-Pop quartet Fighting Kites and his glistening contributions to Benjamin Shaw's Megadead LP, Debnam's output since the Broken Shoulderrr debut in 2011 has taken a darker edge and more sonically exploratory approach. Dense layers of dissonance and noise fade in and out around looping guitar lines which merge the abstract with melody to create something that's both challenging and beautiful and has found supporters as far apart asBBC Radio 3, NTS andThe 405
