With debut album “Umthandazo WeGqom” which loosely translates to “Gqom Prayer@ released in 2021, followed by 2 EPs in 2022 “Groovers 1 & 2” with just one single throughout 2023. The gqom producer returns with a full body of work rich in context, message and growth on “Impumelelo” album a xhosa word meaning “The Success”, coupled with features from renowned vocalists and producers.
Younger Ubenzani’s direction with the album targeted a broad market, from taxi ranks, informal settlements, to amajimbos ase kasi and the village/rural gqom lovers. A very diverse approach with more vocalists on it than it ever happened in the space if gqom in Cape Town. This is weighed as probably the producer’s best body of work in his entire career. Impumelelo is also titled with hope and faith that this is a balanced album that is set a mark, fate and breakthrough for the gqom DJ and producer in the mainstream market.
