(NEW YORK)
As a kid, I realized music has been in my family for generations, as it runs deep in my blood and our heritage. Right from the beginning, I knew that I wanted to be involved with music all my life, says DJ Wasabi, who instinctively connects with clubbers as a resident of the provocative Back Door Bamby party at The Vagabond in Miami.
Now, hes igniting things with a hot new head-turner on Vega Records titled, Flauta y Fuego featuring iconic Colombian vocalist Toto la Momposina. The track introduces what Wasabi refers to as his special blend of Cumbia House music _ skillfully mixing syncopated beats while crossing over into the cultural realm of folk music tradition. On the horizon, I am now creating remixes and producing my own original tracks, along with musicians and free-styling, Wasabi says.
With years of musical knowledge, I integrate my Colombian roots of Cumbia, mastering and editing a new sound ... My intention is to excite the elements of a party to another momentum with these upcoming imaginative tracks, to raise the bar for other DJs to bring back originality in production. In step with his reputation as an ace DJ, Flauta y Fuego plays up Wasabis deep respect for Afro-Latin influences on an epic scale from inception to end, transforming any party into a sonic powerhouse. Collaboration with a legendary singer on the level of Toto la Momposina is nothing short of genius, following the success of her hypnotic imprint on Michel Cleis scorcher, La Mezcla (which essentially breathed new life into the beautiful classic, El Pescador).
Wasabi perfects a one-of-a-kind underground vibe as a Vagabond resident DJ and at Miamis famed Clevelander Hotel rooftop where he streams live on Radio 4by4. His finesse on the decks shines as he spins everything from deep, soulful and Tech House to 70s salsa Fania style. Flauta y Fuego merely confirms the raw talent, hitting the mark with just the right balance of Latin-fueled percussion, a stunning flute solo and commanding beats. I grew up with music in my home, my mother and grandmother were my primary sources of feeding my tastes for Cumbia, Vallenato, Tropical, Salsa, Wasabi explains. My cousins exposed me to jazz, blues, R&B-Soul, funk, disco, classic Hip Hop, House music and Freestyle.
Music is my passion and my goal is to feed that vibe into all my listeners, so their soul and feet move to the Latin funky soulful beat I bring. And, Wasabi definitely brings it with Flauta y Fuego Original mix.
