Originally released March ‘20, Jacksonville’s FON EP gets a reissue via Edinburgh’s Hobbes Music label with the new ‘Hypno’ mix of Varadi. The original EP received rave reviews on release and the new mix has equally been getting proper love on promo, in the club/live set etc.

FON (caps intentional) combines a love of classic electro and techno with dub reggae, sound system culture, the UK's contemporary bass scene, two-step etc. Title track FON fuses two-step rhythms, UK bass and techno in one awesome recording; Orienne is classic electro; and, while Varadi (original mix) takes no prisoners with kick drums from Valhalla and stabs to match, the Hypno mix maintains the drive but takes us to a much dreamier, crossover deep house / techno place.

Yorkshire-born, Edinburgh-based artist Chris Lyth has carpet-bombed all the Hobbes Music events with his formidable live sets. He has a pedigree spanning some 20 years plus via releases for the likes of 2020Vision, Hizou, Doppler, Thug, Plastic City, Leftroom, A.E.R, Shanti and Dan Curtin’s Metamorphic. FON was/is a bit of a departure for him, sign-posting something of a new chapter (under new alias Capricorn One). Global pandemics and club shutdowns aside, he proves (once again) that good music is timeless.

Mastered by Optimum in Bristol, who did a really lovely job, with loads of width in the mix.

ORIGINAL REVIEWS (2020):
"The sound is the furthest thing from retro: two-step garage, Drexciyan electro, Berlin dub techno, deconstructed club, and more are all stripped down to the barest essentials and rewired to create infectious, danceable grooves." JOE MUGGS (The Best Electronic Music on Bandcamp: March ‘20)
"Focussing on stepping rhythms and dubbed-out bass, FON shimmers effortlessly, while the electro-influenced Orienne also impresses. 7.5/10" RICHARD BROPHY (DJ MAG)
