For Casomat's second release we're extremely happy to welcome Berlin duo Man & Wife to the label, who contribute two diverse originals served together with a remix by Johannes Klingebiel.
Man & Wife, originally from England, have spent the last 7 years in the Techno-Hauptstadt, not only honing their production skills but also developing their musical tastes, drawing in influences from all over the electronic spectrum. They describe their sound as "fundustrial dischno" and it's not hard to see why when you hear their varied productions.
'Blonde' is an understated four-to-the-floor number, sitting on the border between house & techno and elegantly pairing soul & melody with raw & almost industrial sounding drums. An interesting combination which bridges the gap between styles not normally heard together.
'Always When It Rains' further demonstrates their eclectic ability, this time with their UK past having a more noticeable influence. At 151bpm, it lies somewhere between breaks and jungle but with an undeniable melancholic and mournful feel to it. Think festival sunrise vibes.
Stepping up to rework 'Blonde' is Johannes Klingebiel, whose recent releases include a 12" on Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space and an LP on his own 'ancient future now' imprint. He lays a garage-influenced groove and a bouncy bassline under the main arp from the original, with plenty of lush reverbs, spacey delays and tasteful distortion to boot.
