Next up on Reptile Dysfunction we welcome some brand new talent as a new member of the family with his very first release, Brix & Mortar.

Based in Glasgow but originally hailing from sleepy Halifax in west Yorkshire, Brian Drake grew up in the Yorkshire clubbing golden era of Hard Times & Back2Basics, so his musical influence is heavily inspired by the transatlantic teleportation of those exciting new sounds that were being brought across at the time and played at those parties originating from Chicago & Detroit.

You can very much hear that feeling and energy in the sounds of this EP so with his sound floating comfortably between the Raw groove based house sounds of Chicago and the more futuristic Detroit moments we decided to lovingly name this EP after a city almost exactly equidistant between the two magical cities, our musical metaphorical meeting point of Kalamazoo (Michigan).

It’s been a pleasure working with Brian as he grows as an artist and we see a bright future ahead for him starting with this killer of a debut EP.

In keeping with the music we decided to find a local artist from the Kalamazoo area to collaborate with us on the artwork for this release and found the very talented Ben Lyon who kindly blessed us with this work of art made from lego bricks for this Brix & mortar Debut release.
