Ko-ja is the musical alias of Matt Branton – London-born, Australian-raised – whose bass-driven House and Disco sets bring groove and flair to any dancefloor. With a background as a seasoned session bassist, Ko-ja brings a unique live energy to his productions and performances. Now based in the UK, Ko-ja blends soulful Disco and smooth House with live elements, often picking up his bass guitar mid-set to drop irresistible funk licks. His journey into music started early: piano at age 8, bass guitar at 10, and by 14, performing in symphony orchestras and jazz ensembles on double bass. Through his 20s, Matt worked extensively as a freelance bass player, touring and recording with major artists across the UK and Australia. A decade ago, he expanded his sonic palette by diving into production and DJing – skills now central to the Ko-ja project. Over the past 18 months, Ko-ja has been honing a fresh collection of Disco, NuDisco, and House tracks – blending sophisticated downtempo grooves with floor-ready rhythms. His music nods to key influences like Kousto, Cavi, Micky More & Andy Tee, Purple Disco Machine, The Shapeshifters, Dr Packer, Never Dull, and Quincy Jones. Following recent studio work in Australia, Ko-ja is now ready to bring his distinctive sound to UK venues, bars, and summer parties. With a live edge and a bass-driven pulse, his sets deliver more than just music – they move bodies and uplift souls.
