KUSUSA
Kususa are an electronic dance DJ and producer duo originating from Durban, South Africa, consisting of Joshua Sokweba known as Kunzima Theology and Mncedi Tshicila known as Samurai Yasusa. They create Electronic dance music containing elements of house, afro beat, techno and African music.
The duo's name, is both a combination of the pair's stage names and a word which, when roughly translated Into the Southern African language of Shona, means "to start over".
Their music catalogue is spread through such label as Universal Music Group South Africa, Ultra Music, Armada BV, Defected Music, Get Physical, Cadenza, Moblack and their newly formed label Back Noise Music Africa.
Over the years they have performed in various countries around the world, having shared stages with world renowned artist such as; Black Coffee, Henrik Schwarz, Monolink, Themba, Zakes Bantwini, &Me, Guy Mantzur, Manoo and Innellea as well as handling the Resistance Stage at Ultra South Africa 2019. They have graced the Mixmag Issue Cover back in 2019, shinning light on Africa's Electronic Music exports then went to perform on the Mixmag The Lab johannesburg the same year.
Kususa's accolades include being on the Traxsource top 100 Afro House Artists consecutively from 2017 - 2021 peaking #13 in 2018. They also hold 7 Dance Music Awards - South Africa nominations, 2 Metro FM Music Awards plus 2 South African Music Award nominations plus boosting with over a million streams yearly ever since the brand was conceived.
2022 saw the duo bag their first commercial success with the hit "Asanda" which they co-produced with Argento Dust and has Zakes Bantwini lacing hynoptic vocals. It peaked at #1 on the national radio station Metro FM and remained consecutively, throughout the summer season on the top 10 of RadioMonitor which foresees song impacts on radio throughout South Africa 2023.
Kususa started working on their debut album which then got released November 2024 under their label Back Noise Music
Africa in collaboration with Zakes Bantwini's label Mayonie Productions CC and distributed by Universal Music Group South Africa.
The Album - "A Life Worth Living" has local all star features such as Anatii, Mawhoo, Aymos, Zolani Mahola (Freshly Ground), Manana, Bongeziwe Mabandla,
Kaylow and more exciting acts. The leading single "Ematshwaleni" peaked on radio in the late South African summer of 2024 and saw itself on DJ Sets of prominent dance music DJs such as Keinemusik, Francis Mercier, Nitefreak to name a few.
Earlier 2025, Kususa collaborated with the sampling company SPLICE to release an Afro House essential pack - Benga Beats and was the initial Cookups artist to feature from South Africa on their platform, where they took the audience through the mobile version and how to make their prominent afro house sound using sampling packs from the program.
