Brett Johnson opens his Classic debut somewhat eccentrically with tight funk that bleeps and blips right into your heart. ‘Stucco Homes’ is a freaky house tribute to Frank Zappa, with surreal growly vocals and loads of wiggly electronic noises combining to oddly melodic effect over a swinging rhythm track. ‘Here and Now’ is an upbeat jazzy groover featuring some nice keys and vibraphone action, while ‘Jiffy Pop’ is a robotic house funker with silly cartoon computer effects that will either delight or drive you round the bend. ‘Slow Down Baby’ is an odd down tempo chugger that starts off simple and gains superbly fat and sleazy synth-funk momentum as it goes. Refreshingly off its head.
