Night Vision is proud to present our first release of 2017: Washington, DC producer Nick
Garcia’s complex and stirring Fenix EP. Comprised of 2 singles and a remix for each, the
release spans a variety of genres, bound together through Nick’s knack for studio trickery and his well
established tastes in left-field house music.
Fenix is the result of countless hours spent tweaking a Korg Mono/Poly, with bits and pieces
recorded and reassembled to forge a track that makes for a wild ride on the dance floor, or at
home on the hi-fi. Proven numerous times in the club by the Night Vision crew, Fenix has done
nothing short of elicit cheers from the audience on every play. Chiba City, its title a reference to
William Gibson’s novel Neuromancer (which provided inspiration for the EP), is a vinyl-sampled
amalgam, its plodding groove re-engineered like the cybernetic citizens of its namesake. With
an animated bass, epic synth-strings, and a hint of dreamy vocals, Chiba’s pseudo-liveliness is
the perfect counterpoint to Fenix’s synthesized chops.
CPU affiliate Cygnus reworked Fenix with his trademark style. His mastery of Elektron hardware made obvious on the electro-influenced workout that flips the original on its head. For the remix of Chiba City, Lustee have delivered their premiere production, a lo-fi gem driven by thick chords and a sizzling drum machine pattern that swings overtop a chopped-up version of the original bassline.
Well-suited for any setting, Nick Garcia’s Fenix EP is a well-rounded offering from an artist we
respect and a friend we adore.
