A child of the 1980s, Greek artist, Simos Tagias has seen his profile soar at an astonishing rate in recent times. Continuing this upwards trajectory, Proton Music is delighted to announce the release of a debut original EP for the label, in the shape of the twin-track, "Airlock".
Hailing from the beautiful city of Serres in northern Greece, Simos Tagias, has found himself at the vanguard of underground dance scene. Discovering a passion for dance music in the 1990s at the threshold of bold and exciting times for the genre, Simos began his first foray in the world of DJ'ing through private parties and local events. Entering the world of commercial production in late 2012, the "Voices EP" for Lynx Music set him on a path from which he would not look back. Some thirty production credits for the label have followed as a prolific career took off in spectacular fashion.
Over the past three years, almost a triple century of production credits can be found next to the Simos Tagias name, as Stellar Fountain, Balkan Connection and Silk Angel Recordings have played host to his work. Furthermore, an appearance on the "Sudbeats 3" compilation with Michael and Levan and Stiven Rivic, with the track "Vega", for the Hernan Cattaneo owned label, was a notable career high point. In tandem with a blossoming production career, DJ appearances across Europe have begun to accelerate with performances alongside Guy J, Luis Junior and Scotty.A.
The successful monthly "Omega" show on Proton Radio continues to showcase Simos' mixing skills and production talent and he has been a regular on the Particles imprint since April 2015 with an array of original and remix material. A single remix of Soulwerk in the summer of 2016 accounts for output on Proton Music thus far, so it with no considerable degree of satisfaction and excitement, that we welcome Simos Tagias and his "Airlock" EP to the label.
The title track itself opens with a blistering percussive section, ticking hi-hats and rapid-fire shakers sharing the upper frequencies with clicking claves. Evolving hypnotically, an intelligent locked groove plays it part through syncopated bass line, as a collage of intermittent effects and gated white noise pads keep interest high. Stepped melodic sequences add a touch of fashionable class to "Airlock" and the resultant effect is to produce a track in the Cid Inc. mould that it is certain to keep dance floors seething in the early hours.
Partner track, "Disco Freak" continues the deep, dark, hypnotic sentiment as a dominant beat anchors itself to urgent percussive rhythms and relentless bass groove. Developing elegantly over the course of its near-eight-minute voyage, a delicious rising effect circles the left-right spectrum, combined with breathy vocal sample, rising to a crescendo at the mid-point breakdown before launching into a huge drop. Bringing together rhythm and melody in glorious harmony for the third movement, an additional layer of melodic cadence brings further intrigue in a highly impressive and mature offering.
A brand new original offering in the shape of the "Airlock" EP has demonstrated Simos Tagias' vice like grip on the underground dance scene.
