A hugely respected figure within Proton Music folklore, Igal Magitman returns to the flagship imprint with another twin-track EP of sublime splendour. With a triple century of production credits dating back to early collaborative work with Roman Brisker, the Magitman name has always been allied with a host of blue-chip imprints that include Global Underground, Spinnin' Records and Renaissance.
Topping the list of most featured labels is Proton Music and over 30 credits dating back to a 2008 debut. Since then, 2012's "Cleaning Day", 2017's "Recovery", 2021's "To the Mood and Back" and November 2023's "Daybreak", have consistently seen Magitman dining at Progressive House's top table with a buffet of tasty musical morsels.
Now hitting the heights once again, "Dreamscape" is worthy of the name with a gorgeous cast of rhythmic and melodic actors. Characterised by a smooth and emotive sustained bassline, a rippling arpeggio and shimmering keys add to the otherworldly quality, as do the ethereal vocal breaths. Building in intensity, an intricate motif plays out with gradual open-filtered intensity atop rich piano chords. The result is delicious blend of counterpoint melody, propelled forward by a deep kick, off-beat claps and ticking percussive hats.
Named after a star in the constellation of Aquila, "Tarazed" is a beautifully crafted affair that hits its mark with a shuffling hi-hat pattern and deeply resonant kick. A syncopated bass pattern and melodic counterpart soon enter the fray while a synth motif adds further variation. Full of vibrant energy, the multi-layered melodies pause for breath at a stripped back breakdown before the kick is re-introduced underneath a muted melodic backdrop as a snare roll heralds a return to the mesmerising phrasing of earlier movements. Building to a powerful denouement, yet another fizzing melody is added to a thoroughly modern and exultant take on the house genre.
Another powerful musical vision sees Magitman once again at the summit of underground house with "Dreamscape / Tarazed".
