Heygate EP

Aggborough

OTB records
OTB#007 | 2016-05-06
After the acclaimed "Bats/Modal" release (OTB#004), Aggborough returns to OTB Records for the heavenly #007 with this 3 track Heygate EP. Since his last release on OTB he’s been setting up sister label "No Real Value" and started playing his first live and DJ shows in his hometurf London. A1 “In a Sieve” The words come from a poem by Edward Lear "The Jumblies". It’s a wonderful classic about the will to try the extraordinary. The track feels like a brooding animation bringing the words to life, ending in an absurd chant. B1 “Traces” Perfect DJ tool based around a simple yet inventive and hypnotic percussion loop layed out in a clear structure. The kickdrum is less persuasive which makes the track live on the border of house and techno. B2 “Heygate” This track comes closest to the unique blend that makes the Aggborough sound: Emotional techno, not too fast and pretty dark sexy. It develops towards epicness but still maintains a stripped feel. The subtle interplay of carefully placed field recorded atmospherics and percussions guide you along this thomping bass driven beast. The general impression is that of a beautiful melancholic machine. Just like the previous OTB record, 88888 (http://www.office88888.com), an interdisciplinary artist-duo based in Brussels, designed an art stamp to produce the vinyl sleeves by hand, making each piece unique. For this one they drew inspiration from the recently demolished Heygate Estate in South London.
