It's always a special thrill to present new music from our dear friend Derek Silvester, a.k.a. Dezza, as he approaches nearly a decade of consistently emotive and uplifting contributions to our label. The Halifax native continues to digest a wide variety of influences, in crafting a unique sound that defies electronic music epoch or genre. His latest offering, a two-track EP, is one of his most memorable to date.

The title cut, "Brit," features a retro house rhythm and bassline, an artist signature, and resplendent pads; all the while, a faint lead melody begins to emerge and crescendo. Suddenly, a heartbreaking, yet transcendentally beautiful theme emerges in the main break, led by a delicate piano and backed by sweeping strings. Ultimately, the sublime lead theme returns and catapults the arrangement into a euphoric anthem.

The B-side track, "Hello," is arguably the more club-flavored tune of the pair. A layered chord progression -- vintage Dezza -- establishes an exhilarating tone early, while a pitched down 'hello' echoes in the breakdown. Once again, we are met with a cinematic main breakdown, in which soaring strings imbue the listener with an almost overwhelming anticipation for the song's latter half. The jubilant drop does not disappoint; it's a triumphant moment from an artist who is as skilled behind the decks as he is in the studio.
