Besides being one of the foremost voices of the Civil Rights Movement, the novelist, playwright and essayist James Baldwin was also a vocal advocate for the arts and artists, asserting that the works and very existence of the artist is vital to the survival of a society. Known for seminal writings such as Go Tell It On The Mountain, The Fire Next Time, Giovanni's Room, Another Country, Blues for Mister Charlie, Notes of a Native Son, and many others, Baldwin's legacy remains a testament to the complex psychology of African American men in hostile environments - only to survive the Diaspora.

Mateo Senolia (pseudonym for novelist, Marcus J. Guillory) presents an engaging deep house tribute to Baldwin with a haunting melody, deep bass line and an excerpt of Baldwin's thoughtful and inspiring speech given at Community Church in New York City in 1963. In recognition of Black History Month, Yoruba Records is proud to offer Senolia's tribute to you.
