With summer fast approaching, Plus 8 keeps the southern European flavour flowing with this powerful EP from Marco Carola and there?s another supremely confident display on offer here, born out of years of experience mesmerising dancefloors around the globe.
Apnea is a sultry, Latin influenced, percussive workout hemmed in by a tight 4/4 groove. Constructed around a strutting bassline the claps, castanets, ride cymbals and conga lines interact to great effect. Like a fine wine, Carola gives the track time to breath before slowly turning the screw, increasing the tension and expanding the room in a wash of metallic reverb. Simplicity is the key as each sound cuts like a knife through the warm night air.
Dancing Days contains another highly toxic acid bassline that builds patiently through a combination of subtle tweaking and layered percussion. Once again Carola demonstrates enviable floor control, teasing the crowd with subtle peaks and troughs and then just as the track seems ready to explode the transport drops away leaving you suspended with nothing but a phat 808 kick to help you keep your feet.
To say Carola continues to rock the house with the digital download tracks is actually an understatement. With its authentic early 90?s breakbeat flavour, Feel It is jam packed with raw energy - so much so, you can almost hear the crowd scream in appreciation every time the bassline kicks back in. Packed with deft touches and funked up snare rolls, the track momentarily spaces out before slowly rebuilding complete with a blistering hook line to top off nine minutes of madness.
Pallegio is another classy, low slung groove that takes it?s time to build. By the time the main bell riff drops you?re already under its hypnotic spell but the track really comes alive once all the elements are in play and start looping effortlessly in and out.
