Attempting to bring back the lo-fi sound of old school Chicago House, new coming producers Sugarcane Family (Sean Fermoyle, Blake 'Moon' Walker) have certainly hit their stride early with debut Elevated Tracks release, "Sweet Nothing." But don't be fooled, these guys are longtime veterans of the Chicago House scene. With over 15 years of djing to flyer design and club promotion, the guys of Sugarcane Family know what good Chicago House is supposed to sound like. They just had to get a lil' elevated first.

Opening up the Sweet Nothing EP is not only our favorite track off the release, but also one of our favorite tracks in the entire Elevated catalog. "Baby Blue," a simple dubby vocal cut, is an ode to that jackin lo-fi Chicago House sound of the late 90's. Defining the sound of "Baby Blue" is both the dirty "MPC like" qualities of the rhythm section and one of the smoothest damn vocal hooks you'll hear on a house record this year. Simple, sexy, funky, and totally eargasmic! You'll be humming this one in your sleep.

The second and final track off Sugarcane Family's utterly fantastic debut release is the industrial/new wave tinged house cut titled "Funny Thing." One listen to this track and you'll have visions of the early eighties dancing in your head. The overall highlight of "Funny Thing" is the dark funky jack of the bassline and the haunting melody of the vocal accompaniment. Together, the bass and vocal shape the color of the track into a totally unique dancefloor experience. Additional elements such as vibes and sparse effects fill in the loose spaces to help create a sound that you won't find anywhere else but on Elevated Tracks.
