PROTON0241 | 2014-02-25
Number one best-selling release for Proton Music in 2013, Dousk and his "Bisocial" EP took the tech house world by storm after its launch in early July. Comprised of two stellar offerings, opener, "Look Good Tonight" has already seen a full remix release of its own with gold standard remixes from Soulwerk and Embliss. As 2014 opens its doors to a bright new dawn for high-quality EDM, partner track, "Jit Jit" now rightfully takes its place within the pantheon of Proton Music greats with two remixes from Australia and Canada.

Over the last ten years, Australian Rich Curtis from the Queensland capital has been involved at the cutting edge of the underground house scene. A multi-disciplined musician and talented promoter, Curtis has been responsible for attracting a host of the scenes top-performing names to his Brisbane home, including Hernan Cattaneo's first trip to the area in 2009.

One hundred Beatport production credits are found next to the Rich Curtis name with a debut on Cid Inc's Replug soon followed by a host of original and remix material on the likes of Indigo, Mesmeric, and Cattaneo's Sudbeat imprint. An impressive collection of work for Proton thus far has seen remixes of Loacs Erepam and Colourblock, followed by the progressive sounds of his "Safety Thirst" EP in May 2013, subsequently remixed by Dousk and GRG in November. Reciprocating favours, Rich Curtis' remix of "Jit Jit" is full of trademark percussive flair and melodic "sprinklings". Syncopated hi-hat rhythms fire in rat-a-tat fashion beneath a deep bass attached adroitly to an intelligent percussion section. Simultaneously, Curtis provides a clever use of the melodic themes present in Dousk's original to create a richly textured offering, full of symphonic strings, sustained guitar chords and glittering arpeggio in exquisite harmony.

Situated in Southern Ontario, Canadian Tim Penner has proven that his unique blend of production skills has been much sought after in 2013. Schooled in the art of DJ'ing at the sharp end, in front of thousands during a residency at Toronto's Viva Nightclub, he honed his ear for music made to keep dance floors across the globe full to bursting.

Throughout the year, Penner's innovative approach to his craft has seen him forge an impressive niche for himself with work signed to Flavorite, Movement and his own Konstrukt imprint, run with Brazilian maestro, DNYO. Furthermore, October's "Pyrogen" EP marked Tim's full solo debut on Proton Music following remixes of Nick Stoynoff and Apologist earlier in the year and ending on a high with a menacing take on Lank's "Weirdo". Taking the vocal samples from Dousk's original, Tim Penner has turned "Jit Jit" into a storming, twisted, throbbing techno masterpiece. Vocal cuts pan the stereo spectrum in 'ping-pong' fashion as a pounding beat and rapid-fire hats build to create a wall of sound, majestic in its construction. Further melodic echoes present themselves in hypnotic glory to create a remix of dynamism and skill.

Remixes from Rich Curtis and Tim Penner have illustrated Dousk's "Bisocial" behaviour is still in full effect as "Jit Jit" hits night clubs across the world.
