On his debut EP Limen, Frakt succeeds in bringing together a multitude of genres, delivering a raw and ethereal narrative. Inspired by the likes of Max Cooper, Aphex Twin, EOD, Skee Mask and Boards of Canada, the EP spans through a spectrum of techno, ambient, acid, melodies, minimal techno, and electronica. Essentially it is a Tablua rasa, where the beats take over and simply exist in a soundscape of urban nature.
Path is an epic prologue of the journey that the EP embarks on, from melancholic and emotional builds to warmth to structured chaos and cultivated sounds. The title track Limen describes an urban cityscape with mechanised melodies and industrial reverberation over deep tones. Recon has a touch of warehouse echoes and heavy beats with drops of light euphony. Moving towards the lighter soundscapes is Dust, with synths that resonate with the sounds of nostalgia, enveloped by warm and electronic builds. The minimal and dubby techno on Flow rounds out the EP nicely with the more ethereal specs.
Whether it be the acidic industrial beats or the more electronic melodies, the structured chaos is the great emotive red thread through the whole EP.
