The 19th addition to Observant’s catalog introduces Vedik, representing the fresh cohort of Indian techno producers alongside remixers Alarico and Morgenstern. Across his three slick originals, he connects elements of techno’s past and present to vividly reimagine the sonic kinship between those eras.
Ushering in with the title track “The Chase” centred around a swooning pad that’s handled just as eloquently as the snappy drum grooves that form it’s rhythmic nucleus, repeatedly being filtered in and out, the Bangalore-based callow genius manages to balance the nimbleness of classic slicing with the punchiness of contemporary techno. Situated in the same eco-system “Ripples” sidesteps the banality of a primed roller by doing the absolute most with it’s elements. The consistent percussion and sub-aquatic synth stabs on “Delayed” offer the EP’s most straight forward moments firmly consolidating his fresh acclaim as a deft and distinctive talent.
Laying his mischievous stamp on “Delayed” Milan based sampling samurai Alarico suspends the metronome infusing a slow-burn sultriness to the speedy original, melding the backdrop of it’s foggy synths with a seductive vocal drivel. Finishing off the EP with Morgenstern’s fleshed-out take on “The Chase” the Berlin-based producer delivers a lopsided thump that feels airy and anthemic at the same time while rebuilding the original synths into a wizened dub-techno territory.
