Back in 2005, when electro house was still fresh, inventive and incredibly engrossing, Coburn stood at the vanguard of the scene with some very big tracks in their armoury. To this day, the triumphant riff of We Interrupt This Program and its breakbeat-tinged groove make it one of the era’s standout classics, and this new interpretation from Brighton misfits Prok & Fitch and My Digital Enemy breathes yet more life into it.
Those stuttered vocals and undulating lead lines remain intact in the breakdowns and in snatches throughout the track, but this time they’re beefed up with muscular beats and a grinding off-beat bassline. It’s the sound of electro house progressed to 2013, with a splash of techno percussion and big room synth trickery du jour creating an incredibly full sound that matches the intensity of the original. Yet another highly effective cut from this burgeoning partnership, and a fitting tribute to a stone-cold classic.
