This particular release from Paul Leath is a representation of his influences and growth within the Techno and Electronic Music realm. The initial inspiration for the beat structure came from observing tracks by DJ Rush and similar artists focusing on the melodic build up and driving presence of rhythms dancing inside an array of pounding kick drums. "Negative Space" displays this build-up using the main lead melody in the intro section - rising in velocity and intensity. "Black Out" continues this percussive driven trend with more of a minimal approach. The melody in this piece is a nod to a well-respected Berlin producer/DJ. The remix of "Black Out" is from his brother Christopher Leath (aka el gato #9). This rework takes on a deeper view of the original with many Dub style elements included. The detuned piano in the background, haunting the corners of each measure was played by hand on the keyboard for a natural feel. The overall goal was to build a nostalgic composition while manifesting futuristic sounds and mixdown techniques. * Audio Engineering by Christopher Leath * Mastered by Arturo Garces
