As Pillbox celebrates its fourth release, the atmospheric and inventive soundscapes of Felix E come to the fore on Sam Packer's fledgling imprint via the richly textured "O Nível" EP.
An artist who grew up with a strong musical background, Felix E's association with the drums goes back to early childhood. Further shaping a growing love for electronic music from his Berlin home, a long-time friendship with Michael Ritter saw the pair develop a strong musical bond and the development of their Grey Bar Hotel imprint along with contemporaneous label showcases. A growing production career that began in late 2019 with a remix for Stellar Black, has since borne witness to a half-century of credits that have featured on the likes of ThreeRecords, Dynamica, and his own Grey Bar Hotel. Now debuting on Pillbox, "O Nível" is a diverse musical tapestry that builds upon a foundation of organic percussive phrases and polyrhythms before a syncopated chord pattern pans the stereo spectrum. As new melodic layers are gradually introduced, a loquacious vocal, sung with refreshing honesty and crystal clarity, adds intrigue and haunting organic layer. Maintaining hypnotic potency throughout, the waxing and waning of hypnotic layers gives the track a natural and colourful vibe.
